Battle of Gazala
The Battle of Gazala started May 26, 1942 and went to June 21, 1942. The battle was fought in North America during the Western Desert Campaign of World War II. In the battle the Italians were trying to reach the minefields north of Bir Hakeim and near Sidi Muftah. At the beginning of the battle, the Italian forces seemed weak. However, after the British forces were broken down the Italians took over. The Axis powers won this battle and had a total of 32,000 killed during this battle. The Allies side had close to 98,000 killed, wounded, or captured during the battle. The Axis side gained the important port of Tobruk as well as thousands of pounds in military supplies, hundreds of military vehicles, and 2,000 tons of Petroleum. This was a huge disappointment for the Allies. (18)
