Causes and Effects of the War
After World War I, the Treaty of Versailles was discussed by 27 nations. The nations that had the most say in the
treaty was France, Britain, and the United States. Germany and Russia were not present at the meeting. Italy and Japan had expected to get more land out of the treaty however were unsatisfied when they did not receive it. The treaty left a bitter taste in many nations mouths and aimed them towards getting revenge on the allies. Also pushing many nations towards World War II. World War I left many nations economic systems and governments struggling. Among those nations was Germany, the Soviet Union, and Japan. The Great Depression that happened after World War I made for the people of these nations to feel deprived and unsure of political ideas. When aggressive leaders like Hitler and Mussolini came to power the people were open to change
and easy to persuade into the leaders ideas. The leaders then made decisions like invading, attacking, and planning world domination that forced other nations like the United States and Great Britain to become involved, eventually leading into the war. After Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor, the United States Naval base, the United States officially became involved in the war.(24)(32)
The effects of the war were different for all of the countries involved. In the middle east many countries were left with untrusted governments, broken economic systems, and struggling people. However for the United States it had many positive effects. The United States had come out of depression left from World War I. We had a booming economic system as well as a huge industry boost. We also had one of the strongest militaries in the world. The United States became seen as a huge world power. (24)(32)
